Meditation for Mindful Living and Clinical Practice
Bill Gayner, BSW, MSW, RSW
An open monthly series of meditation sessions to provide mental health professionals and students from all clinical disciplines an opportunity to develop meditation skills for enhancing their self-care and therapeutic presence with clients. These monthly meditation sessions are offered through the Health Arts and Humanities Program at the University of Toronto.
Sessions take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month, 6:30-8:30 p.m., in the Large Group Room, Room 939, in the main building at Mount Sinai Hospital.
The series is taught and facilitated from an emotion-focused mindfulness therapy perspective, a gentle, experientially open approach to mindfulness that focuses on deepening embodied emotional experiencing in order to make better sense of life, transform deeply conditioned maladaptive emotion patterns, and cultivate our own and others’ flourishing.
To get to the Large Group Room, take the main elevators to the 9th floor. As you are leaving the elevator area, turn left and then left again and walk down the long hallway. The door to the Large Group Room is the last door on your left before the T-junction. Try to be early, but if you are late, push the inner door hard, it will be unlocked, just heavy to open.
Bill Gayner, BSW, MSW, RSW, is developing and researching a new approach to mindfulness, emotion-focused mindfulness therapy, that treats emotions as adaptive resources. He is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, and a Mental Health Clinician in Psychiatry, Mount Sinai Hospital, where he teaches mindfulness to people living with HIV, outpatients in psychiatry, and hospital staff, and provides individual psychotherapy to people living with HIV. He provides professional training and mentoring in mindfulness through the Mount Sinai Psychotherapy Institute and the Health Arts and Humanities Program, University of Toronto.
