Family Medicine Longitudinal Experience (FMLE)

Important Update

Reminder as of 2021, preceptors are no longer required to complete a first assignment on MedSIS. Your student will provide a self-evaluation along with their first assignment to provide formative feedback directly to your student, in preparation for their final assignment.

Thank you for agreeing to be a preceptor for the Family Medicine Longitudinal Experience (FMLE). Below you will find common resources you will need before, during and after your learner's block.

All MD Program teachers are asked to become familiar with the following resources when preparing for their teaching roles (1) Psychological Safety and (2) Learner Mistreatment.

The Essentials of Teaching FMLE

These essential resources introduce new preceptors to FMLE, and strategies for being an effective preceptor. These videos are the recordings of the most recent new preceptor's orientation.

“From the perspective of [a] mentor I found the experience was rewarding. Reviewing my practice and setting with the student gave me a chance for self-reflection which is rare in the usual busy day.”
